The day I wanted to kill someone ...
Published on June 22, 2008 By mike b1954 In Humor

A close friend of mine has recently come back from a holiday in Mexico...

Mexico. Of all the places I would like to at least see before I die, I reckon this is one of them ...

And not only for the typically 'Tourist- y' type of things... Those I would do a couple of days before I leave for home ...

I would want to go to an inland town and sample the true life of Mexico , and experience the way people do really live ,work and play ... and to sample the Unique character of a Typically Mexican lifestyle ...

You know ... the music , the food , the people , the art and culture ... and maybe perhaps the Pyramids they have over there ...

I believe I have quite a 'cosmopolitan' attitude ...

~ ( and by that , I mean ready to observe and absorb the ethos, or total experience )

I would be kicking at the heels to just involve myself with it all ..... thats' the sort of chap I am ...

Which brings me quite nicely back to my friend , who went there ....

.. and this is what I cannot understand ... he was away for 4 weeks , Luxury 5 Star ALL INCLUSIVE Hotel , fantastic food and drink ... great surroundings , Fabulous weather ~ Superb Accomodation , fully stacked Fridge bar , Satellite TV , Broadband internet access , Telephone , even an mp3 player .. 24 hour waiter service

I could go on and on ...

~ And the more I think about it the more it annoyed me ... all he had to show for it was a couple of videos shot on his Videocam , a few tourist- y  ------

( theres that word AGAIN ! ) ---

Souvenirs .... ie. .. a stuffed donkey cuddly toy in a sombrero , a few bottles of Tequila ( what a surprise) and a million pictures ...." This is the wife and me in ...... a restaurant , on the beach ,in a MexicanTaverna, Hotel Heated ( ! ) Swimming pool , at the airport waiting for the plane ... , insert your own location here ................

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I have known my friend for over 20 years ... and for the first time ever, I wanted to kill him ..

..Of course I wouldn't ...  I really felt like it when he came back,though ... !

As you do , you expect to find out a bit more about where he had just been (Cancun) , and his surroundings ... and learn about his experiences ... highlights etc..

Unfortuneately this was not to be ....

I bitterly regret giving him my email address .... thats how I found out he had been on holiday .... he posted everything to me in 5 zips .... .. and then he had the nerve to invite the missus and I out for a drink ... via email ...  Grrrr !

He didn't even lift his telephone up to speak to me , and still hasn't since he came back .. it was all done by email ..

One Word . PRAT .

Sometimes I really hate the internet ....  Oh well ...

Hey Mike,  I can relate.....

Dang it if wasn't for the internet, we wouldn't even know your friend had been to Mexico!

Hopefully soon you will go yourself and share 'your experience' with us...

I think lots of people are drawn to the 'tourist-y' stuff', others are not, it's my opinion; if you want to feel; absorb; and experience a place we must venture off the beaten path, and forge your own.

I agree with ya Mike. I saw a guy on the 'Tonight Show' who had just come back from a vacation in Germany. He mentioned that he was dissappointed with the German food. (schnitzel and fries) He complained that it was nothing special.

When I was in Germany, our group of friends would go find a really really small town, any town, and have dinner in their local restaurant/tavern/inn. That's the only way to get a real feel for the culture and food. Let me tell you, the food was fantastic!! The local people were fantastic and lots of fun to be with!!

If ya ever goes on vacation anywhere, ya gotta get away from the "tourist traps" and see the place like it really is!

You know all you have to do is go to the Southern part of the United States, somewhere close to the border, and you can experience Mexico without leaving the country! It's amazing what illegal immigrants bring!
